Dressing Siblings For Your Session | Lifestyle Family Photography

When it comes to lifestyle family photography, I know you want photos that are timeless. It can be so hard to figure out what exactly you want to dress your littles in. Between finding pieces that are comfortable and stylish, it’s enough to make your head spin! I wanted to share some tips and tricks I’ve learned over the years when it comes to dressing siblings for your session. 

1. Cohesive, Not Matching

Old family photos from the 2000s are full of families in full-on matching outfits. Thank god that’s not in style anymore! The most important thing to remember is to find looks that work together, but don’t look identical. So often with siblings, people think you should make them wear the same thing, when in reality it’s nice to have them show their own personalities. Choose coordinating colors, patterns or silhouettes instead. I love how the two girls in this family are wearing dresses, but each have different details and variation in color.

2. Focus On Fabrics

Comfort is key! You can love a dress or polo shirt online, but once it comes in the mail, you can tell the fabric is not going to sit nicely on your little one’s skin. I recommend buying clothing for sessions in a brick and mortar store, or at least checking what the materials are made of. Our time together will go much better for everyone if your child is calm, happy and comfortable. Opt for organic cotton or lightweight linen, especially if we’ll be outside.

3. Bring A Spare Outfit (Or Two)

Children are going to get messy, even on this very special session day! You can do all you can to make sure they won’t spill on their top, but they always seem to find a way. Come prepared, and bring extras. Bring a duffle bag filled with whatever you could possibly need in case of emergency, and yes that includes fashion emergencies. If we need to do an outfit change, don’t stress! We’re prepared for anything.
