Ways To Include Your Partner In Your Maternity Photography Session

There are so many ways to go about planning your maternity photography session. I love how special this time is in your pregnancy, and it’s so important to capture. A big question to ask yourself: do you include your partner? A lot of more modern photography has the focus solely on mamas. So, do you want your session to be more romantic and traditional or more modern? That choice is 100% up to you. If you know you want to incorporate your partner into the session, I have a shortlist of advice to go over beforehand.

1. Have Them Only In Certain Shots

What I mean by this is, they don’t need to be in every single frame. Ultimately, this is a huge milestone in your life and commemorating this journey you’ve taken on the road to motherhood.  You should be admired as you get all the pampering and attention you deserve. Then, bring them back in for more classic photos to capture stunning moments. Some ideas are: heads leaning together, hands both cradling your baby bump, and talking a beachfront stroll. 

2. Coordinate Your Looks

By no means does there have to be matching outfits, but just keep in mind what color scheme you’re going for. I offer styling services for all my clients, to take that extra pressure off finding the perfect maternity outfit. Once you’ve decided on your look, or looks, make sure that your partner is styled in a way that goes well with what you’re wearing. You want to be able to look back on these photos and love what you both chose, and not be taken out of that memory by cringing at clothes. 

3. Admire One Another 

This may be the most important thing. In addition to having your partner be in specific shots, maternity sessions can be one of the most special moments in your lives. You can use this time to reconnect and bond; fall in love all over again and feel the joy of becoming parents together. If you’re ever unsure of what to do in a shot together, simply gaze into each other’s eyes and find peace there. It’s you two against the world until your little one arrives. Maternity sessions are truly magical, so lean into that.
