Questions For Your Photographer | West Palm Beach Maternity Photography

When it comes to West Palm Beach maternity photography, and photography in general, there are so many things to consider before your session. When you’ve found a photographer that’s right for you, there are definitely questions you should be asking! This is an important moment in your life you’ve chosen to capture, and you want to make sure you’re always on the same page as  your photographer. 

1. What Are Your Specialties? 

After doing some research on their Instagram and website, you should be able to get a good idea for what your photographer specializes in. I focus on maternity, newborn, and family photography, so that is all you’ll see on my social media and in my website portfolios! But still, it’s great to ask your photographer anyway! Within each focus can be a different approach. For example, if you’re looking for a newborn photographer who poses your newborn just so, with ornate backgrounds and props, I’m not the one for you! That kind of newborn photography is beautiful, but it’s not my speciality.

2. Can You Explain Your Process? 

This is a wonderful question because there are so many different ways any photographer could answer, and none of them are wrong. You’ll really get a feel for who your photographer is and how they work once they tell you a bit more about their specific process. Are they hands-on, telling you what to do and how to act, or are they more laid-back? The latter is the category I fall into, although that’s not to say it’s lazy or not focused on the details. It’s all about capturing the moments as they happen before me! If you’re looking to be told where to stand and when to laugh, this question will tell you if that’s the kind of photographer they are.

3. How Would You Describe Your Work? 

Having your photographer talk to you about the way they talk about their work, and the style they frame their work, is so important. For me, I focus on lifestyle photography through a fine art lens. Something I always stress to clients is how they themselves are the art! We’re capturing these beautiful moments of your littles and of your lives to be able to showcase them. My style is meant to be an artful reflection of your family. From my studio to any outdoor location, I promise you gorgeous family images that will span generations.

4. Will You Provide Guidance In Front Of The Camera?

I’m not militant with posing or situations, but of course gentle guidance can always be provided! Sometimes it’s hard to tell if you’re getting a good angle, and that’s why it’s my job to tell you to move just a little bit to the left, or make stronger eye contact with your partner. What I’m not going to do is control the entire session! What makes lifestyle photography so special is being able to capture moments behind the lens while you exist in the moment with the people you love most. Your photographer will always be able to tell you how much or how little guidance they offer!

5. What Is Your Turnaround Time For Images? 

Of course, this is a deeply important question. You never want to end up finding a photographer whose work you love, only for them to have a lagging turnaround time. Always always ask them about this as soon as you begin chatting about hiring them! Times range anywhere from one week to four, depending on what services go into the process of finalizing images. I ask my clients to expect up to three weeks for their final images since I put so much time into curating a beautiful gallery wall or collection for your heirloom album.
