In a recent post, I talked about the importance of preserving family photography. A huge part of that is being able to make sure your children have tangible memories of their childhoods. In this digital age, our little ones are constantly taking photos and having their photos taken. But, chances are, they won’t see or even remember half of the photos they take.
As we lead increasingly more digital lives, so many of the photos we take on our phones stay there. Not only that, but they get completely forgotten! How many times do you snap a picture you love, but you can never find it again? We have the ability to favorite photos and make albums, but how often do you sit together around your phone and scroll through them? We all know about digital footprints, but somehow we can never find exactly what we want to find when we need to.
There are cameras everywhere, and a lot of people have their own DSLR cameras, or even film cameras! But, how many photos taken on these cameras are being printed? It’s estimated that less than 1% of all photos taken today are printed out. That is a staggeringly low number, especially when you consider that the average person can have over 2,000 photos on their phone.
We don’t want our children to not have any photos of their childhoods. We want them to have the memories, be able to remember the love and laughter. We want them to remember their lives! Sharing a collage on Instagram or Facebook is not going to last a lifetime, especially with how quickly technology is changing. Fill your home with beautiful photographs in gallery walls, and gather around an heirloom photo album. The ease of snapping a quick photo is gratifying, but the gift of lifelong photography is forever.
